Russian Ballet Prior to the Twentieth Century

In order to understand the degree in which ballet was modernized in the twentieth century, it is important to get a sense of what traditional Russian ballet had been like prior to the turn of the century. Below is one of my favorite dances from Swan Lake, one of Petipa's classics, as performed by the Bolshoi Ballet Company.
