As for music, Diaghilev decided to go with Slavic music, rather than traditional German, and it was his introduction and use of composer Igor Stravinsky’s music that accounted for Stravinsky’s increase in popularity. Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring can be heard below.
As Diaghilev’s ballet troupe became more popular, he was also able to choose his set designers, such as Pablo Picasso, who with their creations, added to the surrealist mood (Marks 186).
